HOW TO MAKE TIME FOR SCRAPBOOKING

Spending time on hobbies is good for your mental health. It is essential to make time for yourself and do things you enjoy. If scrapbooking is your hobby and passion, then making time for it should be a priority. As a busy mother of four with 2 kids still at home and one grandbaby….I know how hard it is to make time. Nevdertheless, over the past 23 years I have managed to find time to do what I love…which is play with paper, LOL.

CHANGE YOUR MINDSET

The first tip for making time for scrapbooking is to change your mindset. I used to believe I needed a full 8 hours or more to scrapbook otherwise it wasn’t worth it. That isn’t true at all. It doesn’t take me 8 hours to complete a scrapbook layout.

I can snatch smaller bits of time and make a card or finish a scrapbook layout. Try working on your layouts a little at a time. It is OKAY if you don’t finish it right then.

Projects can be completed later. But they will never get done if you don’t get started.

SCHEDULE TIME

We put important events on our calendars. Why not add scrapbooking time to your calendar? It is important to you!

If we plan ahead and SCHEDULE time to do paper crafts, it is more likely to happen. Maybe you have a couple of hours every week on Tuesday evening. If so…add it to the family calendar so it happens.

GO TO A CROP

If you don’t scrapbook with other people at crops, you are missing out on a lot of fun and also the chance to get a lot done.

I love going to crops. It is a time to socialize with like-minded people. People who get the craft!! It is FUN.

But my favorite thing about crops is how much I get accomplished! I have 2, 3, or 4 days dedicated to creating layouts or cards. There is no worry about what is happening at home or work. I just focus on doing what I love.

HAVE A MONTHLY PARTY

What about getting a group of scrapping friend together and doing a monthly evening crop or daytime crop? You can rotate who hosts the party each month.

Bring snacks and a project along and it will be a blast. Maybe even do door prizes each month.

MULTI-TASK

I love to multi-task (as do most women, LOL). It is hard for me to sit and watch TV in the evening without doing something while I watch. There are some scrapbooking-related tasks I can easily accomplish while watching TV. Getting these tasks done will help me jump right into my layouts when I have time to scrapbook.

  • Organize photos on the computer or with the hard copies.
  • Upload photos to your favorite photo printing website so you can get them printed. I personally love Mpix. Their quality is phenomenal, and the shipping is super fast.
  • Stamp images ahead of time and color them while you watch TV.
  • Fussy cut items that need it while watching TV.
  • Work on easy kits while you watch TV.

STAY ORGANIZED

If your supplies are organized, you won’t have to waste time looking for items when you could be working on a layout.

The simplest way to stay organized is to put back your supplies where they go once you are done. Just like we tell our kids, LOL.

USE TEMPLATES AND KITS

If you have very limited time to scrapbook, it may be easier to get more done by using layout templates or page kits.

I have a decent amount of time to craft but still love using templates and kits. They are faster, and I love getting lots done in small amounts of time.

Unless you are married to a rich man and can craft anytime you want….then I hope you found some good ideas on how to make time for scrapbooking! Feel free to leave a comment and let me know how you find time to craft.
